Travel, hurry up and wait. Unfortunately no Internet however there was duty free chocolate and a thrilling Bollywood film to keep us entertained as we waited to board our Druk Air flight to Paro, Bhutan. Leki and Jigme met us at arrival with a “good luck, prayer” scarf and we were on our way to Thimpu. We spotted Snow Capped Monkeys (a sign of good luck) within the first five minutes of being on the road.
What is it with crazed animals in this part of the world? Warned about the aggressive, biting dogs we hit the main drag and checked out the smuggled artifacts from Tibet. There are a lot of dogs, they all growl and invite you to make eye contact. Pssh, I’m not falling for that! Another mediocre dinner, a warm night sleep and we’re refreshed and ready for the road. Lots to see in Thimpu—young artisans creating new trinkets, women busy working the textiles and a majestic view as we crossed the Duchula Pass (inclusive of the Royal Monastery) on our way to Punakha. 200 snake-turns later and we’re down the hill and resting creek side.
See what happens when you make eye contact... this poor pup clearly met the Mike Tyson of Bhutan.
